May I speak at council meetings?

Yes, public participation is welcome at all meetings.
There are two options for speaking at Council Meetings.

  1. Open Forum
    1. Open Forum is a time for any member of the public to speak on a topic not in the Meeting Agenda.
    2. A sign in sheet is available to members of the public who wish to speak during open forum.
    3. Speakers will be called in order as they appear on the sign in sheet.
    4. Before Open Forum is closed, members of the public who did not sign in will be given the chance to speak.
  2. Public Comment
    1. Public Comment happens during the business of an agenda item.
    2. The Mayor will open the meeting to Public Comment.
    3. Those who wish to speak will rise and move to the podium, being curtious to others who wish to speak as well.

Speaking in a meeting, during Open Forum or Public Comment, is limited to 3 minutes.
Speakers are required to state their name and address before speaking.
Speakers are required to maintain decorum during their time.
Remember, you are speaking in public, at a recorded meeting!

It is important to note: While the culture of a Council Meeting may vary from Council to Council, speakers should not expect an immidiate answer or response to their concern from the Council or staff.
Providing your contact informastion on the sign in sheet is the best way to ensure you will receive a response from staff in the comming days after you speal at a meeting.
