Traffic Enforcement

This section oversees the traffic which is created by pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles within the community. This section is responsible for coordinating and reporting the many Traffic Safety Education and Enforcement Programs throughout the year.

We participate in statewide grant-funded pedestrian and bicycle safety enforcement waves. We address traffic concerns and complaints through the deployment of our radar trailer and track the data which is yielded. This section participates in D.U.I. enforcement waves and wolf packs. We maintain one Traffic Homicide Investigator who responds to those crashes where serious injury or death is present.

The speed measuring trailer, equipped with radar, is deployed in the field and rotated within the community for the purpose of deterring traffic violators and detecting areas which are experiencing high traffic speeds. The trailer is deployed to approximately 30 different locations over the course of a calendar year. The trailer’s data collection component is examined by the Sergeant in charge of the Traffic Unit, who analyzes the data and identifies patterns which results in the deployment of personnel to follow up in a more strategic, result based approach.

The safety of our roadways is one of our primary concerns. We make this a priority in our daily routine. We continually monitor our 18.1 miles of roadway and the 60,000 to 70,000 motorists who visit our Town each day.

We are proud of our Team which was awarded 1st Place at the Law Enforcement Challenge for D.U.I. enforcement, in Orlando, FL. We received a great plaque and 16,000 dollars worth of equipment for our agency. Lieutenant Mike Vieno, Corporal Jamison Raley and Officer Chris Huddleston attended and represented our agency and community.
