Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Section (C.I.S.) is responsible for conducting secondary investigations on felonies which originate from our Patrol Operations or other law enforcement agencies who request our assistance.Felony criminal activity which is investigated has been committed in the Town of Kenneth City and is defined by Florida State Statute. Initial reports are taken by a member of our Patrol Operations and then assigned to our Detective for follow up. Cases are tracked and evaluated based on solvability factors and the seriousness of the crime.

The unit is comprised of one Detective who reports to a Lieutenant. The types of crime typically assigned or referred are: Crimes against Persons (for example, robberies, homicides, sexual batteries, aggravated assault/battery, child abuse), and Crimes against Property (for example, burglaries, grand thefts, vehicle thefts, and economic crimes such as fraud, embezzlement, and Identity Theft).

The Detective handles approximately 80 cases each year. Criminal behavior and patterns are identified as a re-sult of these investigations. This information is then shared with our Patrol Operations, where both intelligent led policing and predictive policing approaches are used to deter and solve crimes. This valuable information is also exchanged with other law enforcement partners in the area via task forces, intelligence meetings, daily briefing reports, and bulletins.

The Detective also conducts internal and external training. He attends meetings and training courses on behalf of the department, and brings back information necessary to assist in crime prevention and to detect those who are committing crimes in our area.
