Training

The Kenneth City Police Department is responsible for the initial and continuing education of all of its person-nel. Employees attend courses which are held at the state and local level. All employees receive training or retraining in First Aid, CPR, AED, Tourniquet, Public Records law, Ethics, customer service, Limited Access FCIC/NCIC or FDLE security awareness, and Law and General Orders updates. Sworn personnel must complete man-datory retraining hours to retain their certifications every four years and in the areas of high liability they must meet the industry standards each calendar year. Examples of high liability areas are Active Shooter, Firearms, Taser, Stop Stick and Pursuits, and Use of Force. In addition, officers and supervisors receive specialized train-ing in areas to which they are assigned. Many officers are cross trained so that they may assist one another or assure a smooth transition when there is an assignment change. Civilian employees also attend meetings and training so that they may network with others in the field to learn more about best practices and updates. They attend courses and symposiums which provide a forum for learning and information exchange relating to new regulations or programs which will impact the way criminal justice personnel do business.
